Lori Flippo-Founder

I have always had a love of animals and started helping animals at a young age. My love for horses grew over time and I always wanted my own. In 2009, I came across a horse named Dolly that had been mistreated and abused. It was then that I realized that the Wiregrass area did not have a place for abused and neglected horses. In 2013 I, along with amazing supporters, opened Wiregrass Horse Rescue & Sanctuary.

Every since I was 7 years old and got ahold of the Phantom Stallion series by Terry Farley I've dreamed of having a closer relationship with horses that includes more than just sitting in a saddle.

Devon-VOLUNTEER

Devon began volunteering with us in February 2025 and recently adopted Anastasia, one of our rescues.  She served 5 years in the Marines as Aircrew on the C-130 before pivoting into the role of Program Director at a therapeutic equestrian center. There she merged her passion for horses and service to veterans. In 2014, she became a PATH-certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and an Equine Specialist in Mental Health.
Devon holds a B.S. in Business Management and an MBA in Organizational Change Management. In 2019 she founded a consulting firm dedicated to supporting veteran-owned businesses, guided by her belief in the leadership lessons horses offer. Since 2015, Devon has partnered with licensed therapists and her horse, Dezano, to provide equine-assisted therapy to veterans. She recently founded Pine Pastures LLC to expand this work in the Wiregrass area —with Anastasia now part of the herd. Today, Pine Pastures stands as a living tribute to First Responders, veterans, and their families - a place to heal, reconnect, and rediscover purpose through the healing power of horses.

John -VOLUNTEER

When I was a child, my family had show horses. Being too young to show a horse, my experience with them was limited. As an adult, I sought out a connection with them. Bonding with a horse makes all of my pain fade away. The horses at the Wiregrass Horse Rescue and Sanctuary need me and I need them. Having a film background, I have decided to pursue a career as a horse videographer.

I am an educator and mom who loves reading, yoga, camping, and the great outdoors. I have had a fascination and love of horses since I was a little girl, so working at the rescue has given me the opportunity to help, care, and learn more about these beautiful creatures.

Katherine-VOLUNTEER

I grew up with horses and have loved them for as long as I can remember. When I moved to the Wiregrass area, I was thrilled to discover an outlet that allows me to connect with and care for horses in need. When I am not volunteering, I love to spend time with my husband, dog, and two cats.

My wife and I moved here back in November 2024 and so far we really like it, I love Motorcycles, the beach, and music, I’ve had a love for horses every since I was young and hate to see any animal being abused, Working at the rescue and being allowed to help these horses is a dream come true

Madeline-VOLUNTEER

I am a former dolphin trainer and vet tech. I spent 8 years caring for all types of marine animals as well as rescue/rehab of sea turtles and dolphins! In high school, I spent a few years doing horseback riding lessons. I started volunteering at WHRS and it has filled my animal heart with so much love. My true passion is not only caring for animals, but also being their voice and educating others how important they are!

Brooke-VOLUNTEER

Hi! I am a certified theater geek and homeschool mom. I tend to keep busy volunteering in all capacities with SEACT, and taking on DIY projects that are usually way out of my skill set but we all have to learn somehow! I am so excited to be volunteering with WHR&S, as horses hold a special place in my heart!

Jordan-VOLUNTEER

I've been volunteering at Wiregrass Horse Sanctuary for a year now, and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve always loved animals, and being able to help care for these incredible horses has deepened that love even more. Every visit brings something new—whether it’s a quiet moment brushing a horse or lending a hand around the sanctuary. I’m grateful to be part of a place that gives these animals the care and second chance they deserve.

Jessica-VOLUNTEER

My name is Jessica and I’m a 38 year old mom of 2 teenagers. I’m a full time account Manager, but in my spare time my heart longs for animals ! Especially ones that need extra love and attention like the horses at the Wiregrass Horse Rescue and Sanctuary!
